Man admits killing rival suitor outside Norfolk pizza shop

NORFOLK A 21-year-old pleaded guilty to first-degree murder Thursday in a shooting that left a man dead outside a pizza shop. Terry Ryan Robinson admitted to shooting and killing Drew Lodge last year near a Delvecchio's restaurant in the 7500 block of Virginian Drive. Robinson also pleaded guilty to a felony weapon charge.

Former Wash. deputy admits to robbing Chesapeake bank

CHESAPEAKE With surprise but little explanation, a former sheriff’s homicide detective from Everett, Wash., interrupted a hearing scheduled to question the legality of evidence against him and instead pleaded guilty today to robbing a Greenbrier bank. He still faces trials for three more robberies in Virginia Beach and Hanover County.

Campus alert for CNU after Newport News robbery

A robbery at a credit union across from Christopher Newport University this morning prompted school officials to send out a campus alert to students.

The alert instructed students on campus to lock themselves inside an interior room, barricade the door and draw the blinds. Students who were not on campus when the robbery occurred were told to stay away.

Judge declares mistrial in Beach murder case

VIRGINIA BEACH A judge declared a mistrial Wednesday in the case of a Texas man charged with the slaying of his sister's roommate in Virginia Beach. Circuit Judge H. Thomas Padrick Jr. made the ruling because jurors heard about defendant Tony Smith's previous criminal record during an interview with a detective that was played in the courtroom.

Chesapeake man accused of sex crimes

CHESAPEAKE Police have arrested a 31-year-old Chesapeake man accused of a dozen sex crimes against a minor younger than 13. Joseph Lee Simpson of the 2700 block of Ike St. is charged with eight counts of unlawful filming of a minor, two counts of forcible sodomy and two counts of indecent liberties with a child, according to a news release from the Chesapeake Police Department.

2 charged with ABC, other violations in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE Authorities have charged two people with illegally selling alcoholic beverages and individual cigarettes from a mobile home on South Military Highway, police said. Acting on a tip, police served a search warrant Friday night along with agents from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and seized the following items:

N.C. DA says death penalty moratorium OK in some cases

RALEIGH, N.C.  The president of a district attorneys' group in North Carolina says he supports a moratorium on the execution of any death-row prisoners whose cases include evidence from the State Bureau of Investigations crime lab.

Portsmouth police investigate double shooting

Two men were shot Monday night in a neighborhood off Portsmouth Boulevard, police said. Investigators were looking for two other people who left the scene. The injuries were not considered life threatening.
