Police have charged a man with drug possession after they say a house fire helped uncover a number of marijuana plants.

The fire apparently began in an upstairs trash can at a home in the 400 block of Kingsale Road around 8:30 p.m. Monday. Firefighters called to the scene discovered “suspicious materials” behind a false wall, according to a Suffolk news release.

Suffolk Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit later recovered six marijuana plants, marijuana, smoking devices, pots, fans and fertilizer, police said.

Police charged 31-year-old Stewart Kroll of the home with possession of marijuana. He was released on a summons, police said.

ok,,i did use a bad example

I was merely trying to state my opinion that if it's legal why get upset and demand legalization? If we were to legalize it, yes there are some advantages for the gov't and I would actually be for. Tax the product, report of income for the dealers, and maybe even regulate the THC levels and agricultural standards.

markg,,,my example was just as bad as your rant on "nylon",,,cmon, the Duponts didn't make the law and yes, i absolutely understand that kids will do dumb things. However, kids that tend to smoke pot, drink alcohol and use other illegal drugs tend to do even more dumb things! When's the last time you saw a drunk or drugged person care about their actions afterwards?

phoenix82 - believe me,,,i haven't smoked weed in about 20-25yrs (only dumb phase in HS)...never tried anything harder and only drink on occasion. No hole to climb out of?

Der

"What if your 13year old was smoking weed and having sex?"

They are already doing this. In fact, I was doing it while Reagan was president. Nothings changed except there are a bunch of people in prison, criminals are profiting, and we have burned a lot of money.

The point was regulating and taxing the stuff. It will in fact be harder to get then. Every stat shows weed is easier to obtain than booze.

donthate

sound to me like you're about half way out of that young and stupid hole. Keep crawling.

Pot Grow Operation

Pot should be legal. Mexico just legalized possession of small amounts of all drugs. Portugal decriminalized all drugs in 2001 and their experience has been positive. Now if you are caught with a 10 day supply of your drug or less you face an administrative court, not a criminal court, but in practice they are just not arresting people. A group of 10,000 very serious policemen, prosecutors, attorneys and citizens have formed a group to legalize ALL drugs, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (http://leap.cc ) They see what happened when we legalized alcohol in 1932 as a good example of how drug legalization would work. This foolish war on drugs has lasted 37 years and cost us over a TRILLION dollars and we are not an inch closer to stopping drugs. How many millions of Americans are we going to lock up in prison for decades? Mark Montgomery boboberg@nyc.rr.com

poor example

I know plenty of people that never smoked pot, used other drugs or even drank alcohol. They still did stupid stuff like having sex, driving too fast, shop lifting and much more. That's called youth, not being high. No amount of laws or enforcement have ever made a measurable dent in drug or alcohol use. The sole reason for keeping these draconion laws on the books is the money the drug czars make claiming victory for stopping the smallest precentage of drugs manufactured in the US or crossing the borders. It's a huge joke! Heck, the only reason pot is even illegal is because hemp was the primary and superior material for making rope when the Duponts created that horrbily inferior 'Nylon'. They needed to squash their only viable competitor, marijuana, to push their trash. After all these years, nylon is still the worst product ever produced for rope production.

Yeah,,,a lot of other things contribute to deaths, but

stop trying to justify having legal marijuana. Don't like it,,move to CA or Amsterdam...etc...What if your 13year old was smoking weed and having sex? That's what dope heads do,,,smoke and do dumb things. Trust me,,i know i was young and dumb once.

yawwwwn..

..slow news day. how about that pandemic?

victimless drug

Hay crazyted, how many people are run over and killed by perfectly sober/non stoned people? I'm pretty sober idiots cause accidents too.

Another harmless plant destroyed

Now where am I going to get my weed from?

I am

I am for complete legalization as that is what history tells us is the smart thing to do. The facts are no government has ever eliminated drug use no matter how severe the laws and illegal drug sales support organized crime and is the motivation behind most violent crime. Just go back and read up on what happened when alcohol was made illegal.

get real

What about the overwhelming majority of road kills from the non-pot smokers or drinkers? It's a lame and baseless point w/out real meaning other than to try and bully somone over to another's individual belief system. There's 300 million people here who by nature are daredevils. Deaths, injury's, disappointments are facts of life. There's no Utopia.

I'm not for total legalization nor am I for harsh or over-zealous punitive measures for marijuana, unless of course it's a freighter full headed for Miami.

Six pot plants is totally laughable and I'm constantly amazed at who I find out smokes the stuff at party's well over the age of 40. This guy should be handed a $500 fine and let's move on. The police departments energy's should be squashing gangs and other harmful violent behaviors.

Yeah, well tell that to the

Yeah, well tell that to the hundreds of thousands killed by people legally drinking alcohol and getting behind the wheel. Sure alcohol is legal...and a far far worse threat to society than marijuana will ever be. If you're going keep score you better sure as hell be objective about it.

yeah wrong

I didn't see anything in this article about anyone getting run over. Nor have i read any article about anyone getting run over after smokin a little weed as u put it. If your gonna make a point how about having some facts to back it up.

Yeah Right

Tell that to a young man who was killed by a driver who just "smoked a little weed" before driving. He ran him completely over and killed him. He was a promising young man who had his entire life in front of him. Killed by "just a little weed". Don't say it's a victimless drug.

Really got one

They really caught a serious threat to society there. And undercover botanist.
