Newport News police seek man on malicious wounding charge

Police are looking for a 20-year-old man wanted in connection with a weekend shooting in the 3500 block of Marshall Ave.

On Sunday, a man pulled out a gun and started firing in front of some apartments on Marshall, according to a police news release.

A 19-year-old man who was standing in front of the apartments was hit in each arm and in his hip, the release says. He was treated at a hospital.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation.

Police have warrants charging Jarice Lamier Royal with aggravated malicious wounding and using a gun during a felony.

Royal is described as black, 130 pounds and 6 feet, 2 inches tall, according to police.

Police said Royal should be considered armed and dangerous.
