Today is a bad day to burn outdoors.
The National Weather Service is warning people in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina to avoid outdoor burning this afternoon and evening because of low relative humidity.
“It’s mainly for people that might try to burn in their backyards, just letting them know that today is not the best day to do it because it’s so dry,” said Jennifer McNatt, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Wakefield.
“The wind has come down significantly today so it’s mainly just the relative humidity that’s our concern as far as fire potential,” she said.
