VIRGINIA BEACH
The Hermitage, a Colonial-era house built more than 300 years ago, has been approved for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Hermitage – not to be confused with the building of the same name in Norfolk – is a 1½-story wood-frame house at 4200 Hermitage Road in the Thoroughgood neighborhood.
Part of the house dates to about 1699, with later additions made in 1830 and 1940. It sits on part of the original land grant to Adam Thoroughgood, across the inlet from the historic and better-known Thoroughgood House.
The house is privately owned by John and Marianne Littel, who live there with their children.
The state Department of Historic Resources announced the designation Wednesday. Twenty other places in Virginia Beach are listed on the national register, including the two Cape Henry lighthouses, the Francis Land House and the Thoroughgood House.

good thing
they aren't in Norfolk. The City would have had them condemned and torn down by now.
