The ass favors Eeyore, but he’s more bad than blase, the hauler of heavy loads of coffee.
That’s the story behind Bad Ass Coffee, a yet-unopened business in Great Bridge that has garnered a number of complaints at city hall.
“I just think it’s inappropriate,” said Chris Stallings of Chesapeake who first spotted the signs with his 10- and 13-year-old sons.
He said he turned the car around to make sure they’d read it right. What, Stallings wonders, if his kids go to school and repeat it?
But Bad Ass Coffee – which has dozens of franchises across the country, including one in Virginia Beach – isn’t breaking any laws.
After receiving numerous complaints, the city checked in with the commonwealth’s attorney, said Blair Barbieri, public communications coordinator for Chesapeake.
“It’s not a violation because the sign depicts the donkey as an ass,” she said.
