Coast Guard crews from Elizabeth City and Hobucken rescued two people, two dogs and a bird from a life raft after their boat sank near the mouth of the Neuse River Wednesday.
The couple, identified as James and Carol Warren, radioed for help when their 28-foot boat the Linger While starting taking on water just before noon.
When rescue crews arrived the Warrens, along with their poodle Raisin, Jack Russell terrier Ruby and lovebird in a cage named Babe, were in a life raft near their overturned vessel.
No one was injured.
