Airplane returns to Norfolk International due to warning light

Posted to: News Norfolk

NORFOLK

A Continental flight returned to Norfolk International Airport minutes after takeoff when a warning light indicated that a landing gear door was not properly closed.

The airplane requested to return to the airport, and landed safely, according to airport executive director Ken Scott.

"You have to do it, that's what the warning light is for," Scott said. "Thankfully it landed safely."

The plane was unloaded while crews checked it over, Scott said.

Frequently in cases like this, which are rare, Scott said, it is the warning light that is malfunctioning and not the equipment.
