Steven G. Vegh has written about the South Hampton Roads faith community since November 2000. With more than 1,000 congregations and a rich variety of faith traditions, the religious community has been a rich source of stories by Vegh on topics as diverse as sex addiction in the church, Jewish Passover practices, contemplative prayer, Christian education and the debate around separation of church and state.

Steven earned a master of theological studies degree in 2003 after studying at Bangor Theological Seminary in Maine and Regent University’s divinity school. He earned a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in 1983, and a bachelor’s degree in American history from the University of Rochester in 1980.

Vegh previously reported on religion for The Portland Press Herald in Maine. In his 22 years of journalism, he has also been a state capital reporter in Hartford, Conn., a city government and investigator reporter in Danbury, Conn. and in Texas, and a general assignment reporter for The Daily News in Durban, South Africa. He lives in Norfolk.
